NYPL Digital Gallery
I can't seem to stop looking at this blog. I used a template from Quick Blog's built in options, complete with one of the default color palates.
The real beauties in my layout are the images from NYPL Digital Gallery. I found this wonderful site that "provides access to over 550,000 images digitized from primary sources and printed rarities in the collections of The New York Public Library."
Readers of my personal blog know I'm a dedicated bibliophile. I am also a history buff. As such, I was obviously thrilled at my discovery. The images images inspired me to scrap my original vision for the look of this blog which was to be black and red, with a creepy, near Halloween vibe.
Once I typed " window" into the search box on the site, I was determined to use one of the images so lovingly preserved. To me, the yellowed pages only add to the pictures appeal.
Along with providing a peak into the collection, the images are free for personal use. They can be used for commercial purposes for a small license fee that helps support this important preservation.
One exciting feature of the site is that any image can be ordered as a print or a gift items. An 8x10 is only $30. Not bad for a piece of literary history.
One of the images that captivated me is this one of the display window at the real life NYPL. How about ordering it to hang in my personal library? Granted I don't have one now, just book shelfs in the bedroom and walk in closet, but I have to have something to look forward to:

Or this one for my bedroom. Nineteenth century shoes sure look stylish to me. I love red shoes more than I love shoes overall:
