Admiring Colleen: Queen of the Geeks

Colleen is the blogger I want to be when I grow up. Since according to her about me page, she has been blogging since 2003, I have a long way to go.

Colleen is the author seven blogs including three I regularly read. She is also the webmaster webmistress of blogger hangout and directory GeekySpeaky were her geekiest blog resides. She is a respected member of the blogging community, and especially active as a wise woman in the area of paid blogging. Through the GeekySpeaky forums,  she makes it simple for a newbie blogger such as myself to learn the tricks of the trade. Talk about generous.

There is even a movement afoot to associate Colleen with the phrase sweet ass so she'll be a top return on the phrase for a Google search. If a following like that doesn't crown her Queen of the Geeks, I don't know what would win some other girl-geek the title.

Along with her online pursues, Colleen is a wife and mother of three, plus works full time. Think about it - all that and seven blogs.

Although that kind of juggling is awe inspiring, the reasons I admire Colleen are best illustrated by her personal blog, Simple Kind of Life. I love the look of the blog. It's yellow and red with a nice white space behind the posts, making it eye catching yet easy to read.

More importantly, it is a blog that makes money with sponsored links and content, yet maintains an intimate vibe through out. Every entry has Colleen's unique take on life wither she is writing about her family, her TV watching habits or reviewing a website. She's funny, smart and a Coke drinker, so I value her opinion and trust her integrity. If all blogs with paid content were this good, advertisers would be in heaven.

If I learn one thing from her I hope it is that I'm the blogger, so I should put my stamp on it if I write about it. If I can't put my stamp on it, I shouldn't write about it.

When I wanted to write novels, I read the authors I admired the most with an eye toward following in their footsteps. At this point I doubt I'll ever actually write a book.

My dream has changed to becoming a sucessful blogger. I aspire to  follow in the footsteps of the best bloggers.
